Summary
When Riley Madigan moves to the sleepy mountain town of Miracle Creek, she hopes her new job as a high school art teacher will help her mend her recently broken heart. A little peace and quiet would be a gift this Christmas season. The last thing on her mind is love.
Former firefighter Mark Rivers has spent the last year recovering from burns sustained during a rescue operation. He’s been trying to piece his life back together but still struggles both emotionally and psychologically. When he meets Riley, he finally sees something that might bring some light back into his life.
When Mark asks Riley to work on a special nativity project, he finds himself falling for her quirky, unaffected ways. Riley doesn’t seem bothered by his scars, but is her affection for him real, or is this just another act of charity? One thing’s for certain, in a small town that views Mark as a fragile hero, it’s hard to pursue a relationship without everyone in his business. And although Riley has sincere feelings for Mark, is she ready to risk her heart?
Broken hearts and lives are mended as the town of Miracle Creek comes together to celebrate a Christmas to remember.
My Review
MIRACLE CREEK CHRISTMAS is one of those books that you know from the beginning will be fantastic. The writing style, the characters, the heartbreak, the swooning, the family relationships were all weaved together into this heartfelt story that is hard to put down. Perfect for the holiday season or any time of year and perfect for contemporary romance fans. Highly recommended!
All the books I've read from this author have been five-star reads for me, but this story... it was more than I was expecting. It was honestly just really, really good. I had a smile on my face from the first chapter, except when I wanted to strangle Riley or cry with her or Mark. The author did such a fabulous job of immersing me in this story and in these characters' lives, in their struggles, fears, hopes, and dreams. I just loved these characters so much in all their imperfectness! There were so many fabulous moments, from when Riley wanted to smash a bat into Mark's truck, to the moments on the bridge, to the banter between Mark and Cal, when the town's whole focus was on Riley and Mark. I could go on and on. I really wanted Dalton to get his due - he made me so mad! I loved the project that Riley does for Mark and how that was weaved throughout the story and the connection it had to Riley's past, but also to Mark's. The dialogue was so well done! I never felt a statement was off or unrealistic and there were so many good lines - things that made me want to laugh or swoon or cry. Seriously! All the feels were in this story!
One of my favorite quotes:
"It was people who had the potential to make a house feel like a home, no matter where it was or what time of year."
In the end, was it what I wished for? I can't recommend this story enough! Fabulous characters, plot, and writing. if you enjoy contemporary romances set in small towns, full of complex family dynamics, good friendships, heart-tugging circumstances, sweet romance, and a light holiday setting, then definitely grab this book! I can't wait for this author's next release.
