Summary

Jason Jennings made a tough call two years ago when he left behind his status as a hard-partying star quarterback in order to serve the Lord. Recently returned from a mission now, he's ready to get back on the football field at UCAL. But despite turning his life around, his bad-boy reputation is proving hard to shake.

Allie Hollis is everything a cheerleader should be—beautiful, outgoing, and smart—but her brilliant smile hides a devastating secret. So when Jason begins to show interest in her, there's no question: her answer is no.

Yet, in the face of Allie's chilly response, Jason's gentle persistence pays off, and a tentative friendship grows. Their chemistry is obvious, but Allie's determination to steer clear of a relationship with Jason goes deeper than he realizes. When the truth of her painful history comes to light, the couple must decide whether they will remain on the sidelines or jump back into the game of love.

My Review

LOVE SIDELINED is one of those stories that readers will easily fall into with an adorable meet-cute and some fabulous banter between the two main characters. There's plenty of humor, chemistry, and heart with some emotional decisions these characters face that affect their happily-ever-after. Recommended to LDS romance fans!

I loved these characters! Jason was such a fun mix of talented jock, flirt, and humble return missionary. Allie was a good counter to him, with her more serious personality and her background. She needed someone to pull her out of herself and Jason needed someone to steady him. Really. They're quite perfect for each other. Now if Allie would only figure that out and Jason would not mess it up.

I also really liked the family and friendship dynamics of the story. There is one character, Kate, that wasn't really fully explained or fleshed out (I knew her from a previous book, but others may be a little lost or need more of a refresher). Otherwise, I thought all the side characters were well done and added to the story.

The plot moved at a good pace. It was always engaging and I really enjoyed the romance. There was more to this story than just romance though. Both Jason and Allie have baggage that they needed to work through separately before their relationship could really work. There's a light inspirational element, but not heavy enough that Christian readers of any faith wouldn't enjoy this story.

My one complaint would be in regards to Allie and her sticking to her plan. It felt a little too unrealistic and I just didn't like Logan enough for it to work for me a hundred percent. I could understand the whys, but I think if Logan was fleshed out more or if their relationship felt more genuine (not romantic, but really like they were best friends) than I would have felt better about that part of the story.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I pretty much enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. It pulled on my heart, made me smile, and gave me that contented happily-ever-after ending. I'm looking forward to this author's next release!

Content: References to rape that occurs off page and before the story takes place as background for one of the characters - would still consider this clean.
