Summary

After an unexpectedly thrilling summer with his grandfather, Oregon State student Charley Sawyer is ready to catch his breath at his late parents' Oregon beach home. Hoping for some rest and relaxation, Charley is met instead by devastation: the house has been ransacked. In his inventory of the damage, Charley stumbles across the item the trespasser must have been after, the only thing that seems out of place: a mysterious key. And when he learns what it unlocks, Charley is drawn into yet another adventure with a ragtag group more than willing to help.

Mac Bowman, the brainy and beautiful anthropology student who joined Charley in his summer escapade, is thrilled when she is presented with the opportunity to conduct research in Oregon. Maybe a little time together will allow the pair to explore their feelings for one another. But when she arrives, she is disturbed by what she finds: Charley has disappeared without a trace.

As Charley and Mac each work to unravel their mysteries, their searches collide dramatically. Only one thing is clear: the moment he found the key, Charley unwittingly opened the door to a long-held secret—one that could cost him his life. . . .

My Review

DOUBLE EAGLE DOUBLE CROSS is an interesting mash-up of historical and modern-day suspense. The characters are easy to relate to, the story engaging, and the ending quite satisfactory. Readers who enjoy suspense on the lighter side with a crazy group of characters, humor, and a dash of romance are sure to enjoy this one.

I found the prologue of this story to be really interesting. then we skip to present day and I was a little disenchanted. Sometimes the mix of LDS characters and fiction don't always work for me and I was undecided which way this story would go. One thing I did like about this story was that even though the characters were LDS it wasn't inspirational and so anyone can read this regardless of religious preference. Moving on... I was very happy to find that the story began moving forward with plenty to engage me and I soon was deep into things with these characters trying to figure out what happened and who to trust. There were some seriously quirky characters thrown into the mix, although I have to say that the older generation who came along grew on me. I loved that I wasn't completely sure who the villains were. I thought I had them figured out and then something would happen to make me doubt. The story just got better and better as it went. By the end I was holding on hoping my characters would make it out alive.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really enjoyed this one and will need to go back and read the first book. I'm hoping the next book will be another exciting adventure and maybe have a little more happily-ever-after for two of the characters.

Summary

You’re never too old for an adventure!

After being the subject of an explosive assassination attempt, O’Reilly (Obie) Begay, a retired Navajo archaeologist, finds himself in the middle of the hunt for an ancient record—the personal journal of a Spanish Templar leading to a legendary treasure.

When Obie tracks down the journal, he enlists fellow retirees Peter, Bill, and Jack to assist him in following its clues. Facing gunfights and car chases, the treasure hunters locate a 500-year-old Mayan codex, the next clue on their adventure. Peter’s grandson, Charley, and Obie’s granddaughter, Mac, come along for the quest, but they may find themselves drawn to a different kind of treasure.

Constantly one tiny step ahead of their enemies as they scour the caves, cliffs, and canyons of Southern Utah, Obie’s team will have to rely on each other if they want to reach the treasure before their pursuers. But what will they do if not all in their numbers can be trusted?
