Friday Favorites is a weekly meme hosted here, that spotlights a favorite author, book, series, publisher, cover, blog, etc. Basically whatever bookish thing that you love, recommend, and want to tell others about. Just pick one and link up to my post each Friday to share. You can use the graphic I used above, the other one here, or your own.
Today I have a favorite to share with you! It's a book I just got about a week or so ago and read last week and have been saving up my review until now to share. Here goes...
As You Are
(The Jonquil Brothers #3)
by Sarah M. Eden
Historical Romance
January 2014 by Covenant Communications, Inc.
Goodreads Summary:
A horse breeder by trade, Corbin Jonquil is more at home in the stables than in the ballroom of his sprawling estate. Corbin is the quietest of the Jonquil brothers and has always faded into the background, contentedly unnoticed. When a mysterious young widow, Mrs. Clara Bentford, moves into the neighborhood, however, Corbin quickly comes to realize that being noticed has its advantages. But how to catch the eye of the lady?
According to his brothers, Corbin need only make a few simple changes to transform himself into the object of any woman's desire - dubious advice, indeed. Following a series of misadventures, Corbin and Clara slowly lower the facades behind which they've been hiding, leaving Corbin shocked by the horrors that haunt the woman he's coming to care for so ardently. When the menace of Clara's past threatens to tear them apart and tensions mount, will the couple have the courage to fight for the promise of forever?
My Review
I love Sarah M. Eden! Love her! I was really excited to see that she has been republishing her Jonquil Brothers series since I never got to read them all before they were no longer available. I love her books because they are well written, have great characters, enjoyable plots, are written in the Regency period of England, and include some sweet romance. They're also clean.
As You Are was no different. The only difference I would say to her other books is that the hero is much more reserved and less confident than her others. However, that wasn't a negative thing. I loved Corbin just as much, sometimes more, for his esteem of his brothers and good heart. He is just good. He also came out of his shell when the need arose and did so marvelously. I really liked Clara as well. She took full responsibility of her nephew and daughter at a time when that was very difficult to do. She is understandably cautious, but also loving, kind, and a fierce protector when she needs to be. I loved the children too! They added so much to the story, as did Corbin's family.
The plot moved along smoothly. There wasn't a lot going on, just a slow development of the relationship between Corbin and Clara's nephew and Corbin and Clara. There is also some danger surrounding Clara and the children which added some mystery and urgency to the story in parts. I liked that Corbin and Clara fell in love almost without really being aware of it, although Corbin pretty much loves her at first sight.
This was another favorite Historical Romance from Eden and one that has been added to my shelves. I have to say that I absolutely love the cover! So gorgeous! I'm looking forward to reading the next, and I believe final, Jonquil Brothers' book, which hopefully will be released next year.
Here's one of my favorite parts between Corbin and his mother:

Here's one of my favorite parts between Corbin and his mother:
"Oh Corbin." Mater stopped him in the middle of the corridor, squeezing his arm. "Being something you are not is't the way to win a woman's affections."
"Being me doesn't seem to be the way either."
"If Clara Bentford does not love you, Corbin Lucas Jonquil, precisely as you are, then she is not the lady for you, my dear."
