Friday Favorites: Pivot Point by Kasie West

Friday Favorites is a weekly meme hosted here, that spotlights a favorite author, book, series, publisher, cover, blog, etc. Basically whatever bookish thing that you love, recommend, and want to tell others about. Just pick one and link up to my post each Friday to share. You can use the graphic I used above, the other one here, or your own.

I finally finished a book that I've been dying to read for some time. I had super high expectations going in and they were actually met. I love it when a book doesn't let me down! It is being added to my favorites shelf and now I've got to read the other book in the series!!! It's sitting on my shelf, but I won't get to it until I get some other reading done, which is such a bummer. I'm ready to meet a certain guy again and find out what happens with Laila. The author, Kasie West, was right to be happy about more cute boys when she stopped by last month (you can see her interview here). ;)

Here's the book info and my five-star review...

Summary

Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.

My Review

I had heard a lot about Pivot Point before I ever started reading it and was already a fan of the author, but I still wasn't completely sure what to expect. Let me just say that it was awesome! I was totally blown away!!!

I don't normally like love triangles. They don't usually work for me and rarely do I actually like both guys or both girls enough to even really consider it realistic. Some would say that Pivot Point revolves around Addie's choices between two guys, but to me it doesn't. I mean it does, but it is really about two completely different paths she has to choose from. She doesn't really know both guys at the same time because only one of them is a part of her actual life depending on which path she chooses. It just completely worked for me. I could see how it played out and why she would be attracted to both of them. I also initially liked both of them okay, but definitely began liking one of them a lot more as the story progressed. I really cannot wait to see how things turn out for Addie in the next book!!

These characters were fabulous!!! I loved Addie, Laila, and...umm...one of the guys (I'm trying not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it yet)! ;) I loved how each of them had their strengths and their weaknesses and how they complimented each other. I loved the dialogue! LOVED it! It was equally fun, serious, snarky, with some romance here and there. I cracked up so much! I also wanted to yell at a couple of the characters "Don't do it! Wake up!!!" Yep. I'm a total book geek. It's okay. I've come to terms with it. ;) I could definitely hang out with these characters, so I definitely connected to them and am planning on rereading their story in the future.

The writing style, pacing, and plot were perfect! I loved that the story didn't get overrun by the romance. It was part of the story and part of Addie's life, but there was so much more going on. Addie really has to find herself and who she is or will be in one path of her future. Then there are other issues she has to deal with regarding her friends and family no matter which path she takes.

I just loved this book!!! (In case you couldn't tell.) I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading SciFi, Parnormal Fantasy, Contemporary, or just looking for a good book!

    1. I obviously LOVED it!!! :D Pivot Point doesn't have a cliffhanger really, so even though I am really wondering about what will happen in the second book, I can handle it.
