Friday Favorites: Split Second by Kasie West

I have been dying to read Split Second since finishing Pivot Point earlier this year. That ending! That's all I'll say in case you haven't read it. In case you haven't guess, I was happy with Split Second and how this duology ended. Check out my review below and then let me know if you have a favorite to share.

My Review

I have loved every one of Kasie West's books. Split Second was no different. It wasn't my favorite of her books, but it was still a favorite and a story I thoroughly enjoyed!

It took me a few chapters to get back into this series and clearly remember Addie and Laila, but once I did the story went quickly. I still loved Trevor from Pivot Point, hated Duke, and was intrigued by Connor. Addie and Laila were both great characters, but so very different. I appreciated that their voices were uniquely their own and that they had their own struggles. I also agree with the author, who said: "How about I tell you that half of the book takes place in Laila's POV. Which means? She gets a boy of her own in this book. Yay for more cute boys." (Interview can be found here.) I definitely didn't mind. ;)

There were so many deceptions going on in Split Second. There was Addie lying to her father, her father lying to her, her mother withholding information, Laila hiding things from Connor and vice versa. Then there was Duke with all of his lies and the compound's security team that manipulated events. Addie had the additional stress of lost memories and then those memories being regained and Laila had to worry about her family and trying to make up for her betrayal to Addie. There was so much hurt that could have turned to bitterness and ruined these characters, but instead they pull it together, heal their friendship, and move forward. The ending was climatic and perfect for this series.

If you enjoy paranormal or sci-fi, or enjoyed Pivot Point, then definitely check out Split Second. It has a permanent place on my shelf. I'm looking forward to reading Kasie West's next book, The Fill-In Boyfriend, which doesn't come out until May of next year.
