My Review

By far Moving Too Fast was my favorite from this series! It had a dark and brooding bad boy for the male protagonist and a sweet and lovable female protagonist. There was plenty of romantic tension with just a few intense kisses, which to me makes them more meaningful and more climatic. I also liked that you could read this book, just like the others, on its own. The other characters from the first two books do make appearances, but the two MC's are center stage and the story is one that holds its own.

 I liked that the story was mostly from Carrie's perspective with Grant's mixed in here and there. I liked her voice. I liked how she was a little apprehensive of Grant, but not afraid to challenge and push him. I loved that they were immediately attracted to each other and had to really put that off, but that they spent lots of time developing a friendship. Their friendship had the potential for so much more.

 I'm curious to see what happens between Tag and Mickey (secondary characters in the first three books of this series) and if there will be more stories about the next generation of Carrington's, or which stories the author will be re-writing into cleaner and sweeter versions. Now I need to go try out the recipes at the back of these books. They make me hungry just thinking about them. :)

It's just really a quick and fun book. It was entertaining and definitely sweet. I'd recommend it to Adult Romance readers.

My Review

I wasn't sure that I was prepared for this one after I ready the first few pages. Jayne, aka "Becca," witnesses something really terrible that is also emotionally very close to her and then tries to build a new life somehow afterwards. It just really hit me with how abhorrent and difficult and sad the situation was. Then she went to care for an ailing lady who had a heart condition and Alzheimer's. I felt really emotionally drained in parts. There were poignant thoughts like this one:
"Sometimes parents give you away, but they make you stay."
~p. 16
This is in reference to the very lonely childhood Becca experienced. She was there, but not there and that made me really sad too. I just connected with the character and what her emotions would feel like with the way the story was written. It was like the characters thoughts were taken straight to the page. They weren't always in lovely sentences. Sometimes they were broken, but they felt real. 

 Then there were other poignant, but beautiful moments that just lifted my heart. There were a couple of scenes with Aurelia (the ailing lady Becca is caring for) where Aurelia started this conversation and then Becca tried to find what she was referencing and she finally finds it. It was one of my favorites from the book and tied in so nicely with the book title. Here are parts of it:
Aurelia's eyes widened. "Becca, will you look at that?" The conversation derailed.
"What is it?" 
"See here in my palm?" The older woman held one shaky hand toward her. The skin was so white-pink it looked bleached, and so thin Becca wondered how protective it could be anymore. 
"I don't see anything. I'm sorry." 
"No. You wouldn't." Her expression darkened. "Nothing's written there." Pale as they were, her eyes lit. "But my name is written on God's palm." 
Becca envisioned Aurelia Hughes inscribed in beautiful penmanship on an enormous, calloused Hand. 
Aurelia closed both her frail fist and her eyes. "Some days, that's the only thing that keeps me going." 
Her breathing deep and unhurried now, she seemed not to sleep as much as rest in that thought.

Then it continued a little later here: 
A fragile string of graduated flowers stuck its head out of the pages of Aurelia's Bible. Becca opened to the bookmarked page. There it was. Isaiah 49:16—"Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands." Belonging.

I really loved Becca, Isaac, and Geneva. I loved how they were knit together and they interacted with each other. I loved Isaac's group of guy friends. I loved Aurelia and how much she added to the story. I do have to admit that when Becca first started caring for Aurelia and lied about her past that it really bugged me. I thought it would have been so much easier for her to have told as close to the truth as possible. No one would have thought she was anyone other than she said she was. There was no reason to. Instead she bumbles through a lot of the time. At the same time, I could see why she felt as she did and I loved this book regardless.

This was such a heartfelt, intense, sweet, unpredictable-in-so-many-ways-type of story. It was tough to read in parts, but it was so worth reading. There were so many poignant and sad, but also happy moments. I loved it! I would definitely recommend it to Christian Romance readers as well as general Adult Romance readers. The inspirational element is definitely there, but it wasn't overly done. It was just part of these characters and their lives.

This is the last novella in this series. I'm actually going to miss reading these, but I guess I can now re-read them. :) The book up for review this time around is...

My Review

Immersed really surprised me. It just wasn't what I was expecting and it was a very different story from the other books in the series. These weren't bad things though. They were very good things because I loved this story!! Loved it! It might be my favorite of the series.

 Lissette's voice was fabulous! I absolutely loved it and the craziness and humor. I could understand where she was coming from and how tired she was of being hit on because of her looks. I also really liked Erik. He was unexpected in a lot of ways too. I figured out who he was almost right away, but I still didn't know what he was playing at. I just fell in love with both of these characters!! The romance wasn't too heavy, so it didn't overshadow them or the plot. Speaking of the plot...

 The plot kept me guessing. I didn't know if Erik had an agenda of some sort and what it would be. I didn't know if Lissette would pick up on things. I didn't know if she would blow her cover. I wasn't sure about the whole situation with Lisette's mom. That was probably my only non-realistic-feeling part of the story, but regardless I still loved it. It definitely pulled an emotional response. I just loved the humor and the creativity of this story!

 Immersed was such a fun and sweet read. It kept me laughing at these outrageous moments, had me melting with the sweet romance, and falling in love with its characters. It's definitely one that I'll be re-reading. I'd definitely recommend it to romance lovers!

“So…what?”

“Plain and simple: you’re too pretty for this job.”

Lisette rolled her eyes and picked up her brush again, going at the high spots on the wall with vigor. “You’ve been talking to my mom again. Did she finally rub off on you?” Great. Now no one believed in her. Not even Aunt Corky. Just a pretty face.

“No, not in that way. What I’m saying is that your business has merit. It can totally work. But just not with you, the way you are.”

Aunt Corky probably didn’t mean to make Lisette want to cry, but the tears welled in her eyes all the same. This dream had taken every waking hour of the last eighteen months. She’d poured her heart and soul into making it grow, not to mention all the money she’d buried in it—advertising, the office, everything. And her time. Day and night. How entrepreneurs lived past age forty mystified her. She barely had time to keep an eye on her elderly next door neighbors. And when a girl was too busy to serve other people, she was too busy.

Aunt Corky reached over and grabbed Lisette’s hand. “What I’m saying is you need a makeover.”

Lisette raised an eyebrow.

“Don’t raise that eyebrow at me, Z. I’m serious about this.” Aunt Corky folded her arms across her chest. “Not a makeover in the traditional sense. More like a make-under. You know, to make you look less…gorgeous.”

Here it went again, with the appearance factor. Didn’t all the studies say that people who were good-looking had a better chance at success than those who were below average?

“You’re not buying it, I can tell. But think with me. Dark circles under the eyes. A greasy wig. Lines at the mouth. And right about here,” she pointed at her nostril, “a big wart.”

“A wart!”

“Okay, maybe not a wart. That might be over the top. But something that will keep all the pawing maniacs at a distance.” Aunt Corky shrugged and leaned against a dry wall like she’d made her case and the prosecution rested. “Think about it, Z. I mean, you want Immerse to succeed, right? All the years of language skills and business acumen you’ve amassed, they’re going to waste.”

Lisette sighed. Even though she wouldn’t admit it aloud to Aunt Corky, unless something changed at Immerse, things could go south pretty fast. However, she wasn’t convinced it was reason enough to subjugate her dignity and go into daily disguise just to ward off pretenders.

Aunt Corky resumed painting. “Just think about it. Don’t decide now. But if you want to do it, I know somebody. Samantha. A genius with bad makeup. She could absolutely transform you. No one would even recognize you.”

This was crossing over from ridiculous into the absurd.

Her grandmother was Norwegian, and Jennifer grew up with lots of Scandinavian traditions floating around, including fabulous cardamom laced cookies called Krumkaker, made on a fancy waffle iron. My Review

I really enjoyed reading The Recruit. It was different and interesting with an intense and driven female protagonist. It was a little different than what I was expecting. I was expecting more of a climax and more suspense like the last of the summary points to. There is some, but this is more of a Contemporary Romance with a twist. 

I really liked Jasmine and her group of friends. I also liked the dynamics of the high school, which is so uncharacteristic of me. Normally I don't like the extra drama, but I liked how the characters and author handled that setting and that it wasn't over-dramatized. I also really liked The Ring, which is the boxing gym that much of the story takes place at. Then there was Ryan, who kind of had that dark and broody bad boy vibe. He's about five years older than Jasmine, but it all worked. 

 The MTG Agency plot was interesting. We just graze the surface in this first book. I think there will be a lot more going on in the following books in the series, at least I hope there is. There is potential here for some good spying and suspense with still that element of romance that was present in this book. I'm curious to see where the series goes. The only thing I didn't like was all the language.

I would recommend The Recruit to those who enjoy YA or NA Contemporary Romance with an element of action and suspense and a strong female protagonist.
