Summary

In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.

Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment --

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

My Review

LUCKY IN LOVE is an adorable story about a girl who wins the lottery while trying to hold so much together even while it falls apart, the friends she learns are true, and the possibility of first love. Relatable characters, friendship, a strong family dynamic, and some seriously sweet romance made this story heartfelt and fun. Perfect for fans of the author and contemporary YA readers who like their stories on the lighter and sweet side.

I loved Maddie from the start! She's a total geek, but a very cute one, and she totally owns it. I loved her group of friends and her dysfunctional family. I loved that she came across as authentic. She has her worries and insecurities and dreams... Winning the lottery totally tests her life as well as who and what she trusts. I also loved Seth! I definitely could have handled a lot more time with him, but I also appreciated how their relationship develops, including the awkwardness as they figure things out. There were some nice twists and some tough parts in this story that kept things interesting.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I have certain expectations from this author... I was looking for cute and sweet with some characters to fall in love with. That's exactly what I got, along with multiple tugs on my emotions as Maddie works through her new situation. Top that all off with a very sweet ending. I loved it!
