My Review

RIGHT NEXT TO ME is full of friendship, love, and the uncertainty of new beginnings. With a great set of characters and an emotionally-charged story, readers won't but help to fall in love with this story.

I am not a huge love triangle fan. There are very few books where this plot point works for me, and luckily this was one of them that did. I don't know anyone who didn't wonder what would change, particularly relationships, when they went off to college. The author so easily conveys that uncertainty, as well as the whole situation in trying to decide if they should stay together with a boyfriend or girlfriend. I didn't necessarily agree with Sydney on how she handles things, but I also got it. Things are so much clearer in retrospect than they are in those moments.

The characters felt so authentic. Such as the best friend who is always making out with her boyfriend and the perfect boyfriend who is popular, sweet, and seriously good looking. Then there is Sydney's other best friend, James, who is the epitome boy-next-door (even though he doesn't live next door). I loved how they're all friends and there is a lot of history between them. To be honest, James is amazing. He's probably my favorite character. I loved Sydney too, but there is something so very true and genuine about James. He is always there for Sydney. Always. I fell in love with him fairly early on in the story.

Then there's the romance... It was seriously sweet and adorable and heartbreaking. This one had quite an emotional roller coaster, but I loved it. I loved that it pulled emotions from me and how invested I felt in these characters.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend it to Young Adult and New Adult readers alike. I'm very much anticipating this author's next release!

About the Author

Rachel grew up reading every book she could get her hands on and spending time with her cat. At least, that was the report in every annual Christmas letter. The humiliation was enough to spur her into action, and she began writing, and never stopped. Rachel studied English at Brigham Young University-Idaho and then blogged and wrote in between the births of her six children. She currently lives in West Jordan with her family, and while she no longer has a cat, she still reads every book she can get her hands on. Right Next to Me is her second novel.
