Summary
The guardians, the shadowy heroes of the top-secret program designed to protect members of the most elite government organizations, are being hunted down one by one. There is a single explanation: a traitor must be embedded somewhere in their midst. But if they themselves are the target, who will protect them?
CIA operative Renee Niezen has heard tales of the guardians, though she's never really believed in their existence—until she is approached by Charlotte, an old friend who desperately needs her help to stop the systematic destruction of the guardian program. Renee accepts the plea for assistance, but not everyone is thrilled to have her on the team. Kade—one of the last guardians standing—is unimpressed with Renee's qualifications and turns instead to the legendary Saint Squad for help. But when Renee is caught in the crosshairs, Kade must set aside his antagonism for the woman in order to protect her. Their grudging alliance soon develops into much more—but before the pair can examine their feelings, their investigation takes a dramatic twist. With lives on the line, Renee and Kade must use their spy training at every turn as they draw dangerously close to the shocking truth.

My Review
SAFE HOUSE is a steadily-paced story where the suspense level grows little by little towards various climaxes and then the final climatic end. The romance is sweet and complex, with the characters' careers as they are. Those who already love the Saint Squad from the author's prior books will love seeing them appear again here. An overall enjoyable romantic suspense.
I really liked both Renee and Kade. They're thrown together without much choice in the matter and make the most of it. They couldn't foresee the dangers lying ahead both to their lives and their hearts. I liked how they both slowly warmed up to each other and getting to see the members of the Saint Squad as well as the characters from the first Guardians' book. Those who aren't familiar with the older characters might be a little lost and sometimes I would have like a more singular story with just Renee and Kade along with more suspense and action. Having said that, I still love the Saint Squad and I loved their action parts. The ending was especially perfect and left me just the way I like to be left for these types of stories: completely content.
In the end, was it what I wished for? I really enjoyed this one. I would have liked maybe a little more and there are still a few loose ends, but I think readers will be seeing more of the Guardians and the villain they have yet to flush out. I, personally, am very much looking forward to the next installment!
Content: Some violence relative to the story. Still clean.
Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, which did not require a review nor affect it in any way.

Summary
In the wide-open landscape of Pennsylvania, Charlotte Martin and her father live a peaceful life on their farm. . . or so it seems. In truth, the rural locale provides the perfect front for the father-daughter NSA operatives as they expertly carry out their mission: using a high-tech computer system, they protect a team of undercover agents. Some would kill to have access to this system, and it makes Charlotte and her father prime targets. It was only a matter of time before this nightmare unexpectedly crashed down on them, and only Charlotte escaped with her life. Before Dwight Martin died, though, he initiated the failsafe lockdown, and now Charlotte's the only one who can access the system.
Writer Jake Bradford left the serene Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia for the hustle and bustle New York to pursue his dreams and never looked back. Until now. Entrusted with his ailing grandmother's care, Jake knows he needs help and he can't believe his luck when a lovely young woman providentially appears on his doorstep. Charlotte creates a new persona for herself and quickly develops a bond with Jake's grandmother. But it's the connection she feels with Jake that makes it almost too easy to lose sight of her reality: she is being hunted by men who will stop at nothing to access the intelligence she protects. With time running out, can the couple find a future together, or will Charlotte's secrets tear them apart?
