Summary
Young private investigator Jayden Spaulding has cracked his share of tough cases, but nothing like this. When stunning professional basketball player Nadia Fairchild walks through his door, her story seems simple enough: two days ago, her mother disappeared along with a member of the women’s college basketball team she coached. Jayden and Nadia delve into a baffling maze of motive and opportunity with a lengthy list of possible suspects. As they work together amid their growing attraction to one another, the unlikely duo seems no closer to discovering the truth. Then the threats begin. Soon, the pair begins to suspect that this case is much more complicated than a simple disappearance—they have unwittingly stumbled on a conspiracy of corruption, greed, and murder far more deadly than they ever imagined. Others are also searching for the missing women, and they will eliminate anyone who stands in their way . . .

My Review
THE SEARCH is a suspense story where two people find the chance of love while searching for two missing persons. Those who enjoy this authors other books may enjoy this one.
I had high hopes for this one. It starts off really well and I was ready to continue the story of Allyah who is in fear of losing her life, but the story completely shifts. I would have liked to have had storyline switches between Jayden and Nadia and then Allyah, which would have also built up more suspense. I also would have liked that aspect of the story, Allyah's, to have been developed. Instead the story completely switches gears to Nadia searching for her mother and hiring Jayden to find her. The positive side to this was that I did like Jayden's and Nadia's story.
I really liked Nadia and Jayden. Jayden is a little comical when he could have been more serious, but I also liked that side of him when it helped relieve a stressful situation. I think some readers will like him better than others. I liked that he knew what he was doing and I loved his dog and how they went everywhere together. Nadia is super sweet and talented. Jayden brings her out a little more. I also thought some of the side characters were well done, such as the college police chief. The romance was really quick, but also rather sweet.
I had a few other issues. One was that a lot of the story felt like plot points, but not always with development in the story in-between or breadcrumbs for the reader to follow. Something would happen and then the story would move on to the next plot point. My other issue was some of the things that happened being realistic or there being enough information for the reader to feel like this is what should happen or why it happened. I just wanted more development and for the suspense to feel like it was building up.
In the end, was it what I wished for? I was hoping for more from this one. It was an enjoyable story, but I wanted more development and more suspense built up.
Content: Some violence, including dog attacks and shootings.
Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, which did not require a review nor affect it in any way.
