Summary

Tess O'Rourke dreams of becoming the first female chief of police in Long Beach, California. As commander of the East Division, she is well on her way . . . until the night she responds to an officer-needs-assistance call and fatally shoots an unarmed teenager. Despite being cleared of wrongdoing by a grand jury, Tess is so hounded by the public that she takes a job in Oregon to escape the bad press.

Winning over the residents of Rogue's Hollow might be more difficult than adjusting to her new role as police chief in the small, backwater town. Especially when her closest friend, the pastor's wife, goes missing and the woman's cousin is found shot. Tess finds an ally in sheriff's deputy Steve Logan, but as they track down Rogue's Hollow's first murderer, she worries that she's breaking one of her rules and getting too close to him.

My Review

CRISIS SHOT is a evenly paced suspense with plenty of twists and turns, making for an exciting read. The inspirational element is woven through in a genuine way, making it feel believable, but also inspiring. Readers will love this heroine and the other characters, as well as the small-town setting. It's a fantastic start to a new series and highly recommended!

I loved this story! It started off with an immediate connection with the heroine, Tess O'Rourke, as she comes under fire for doing her job and saving an officer's life. That connection just grew as she faces opposition in her new position and as she tries to solve a case that has her rather flustered. I loved her character and I fell in love with the other characters in this small town.

I also appreciated that the author gave plenty of breadcrumbs as to who the villain might be, but also enough questions that I was never completely sure who it was. I even doubted Tess's romantic interest, trying to decide if he was the real deal or too good to be true. I didn't completely know what the outcome would be and was riveted to the very end.

I also enjoyed the other aspects of this story. The romance is very light. This is really more of just straight suspense, but I think there arevsome things that start here that we'll see more of in subsequent books. I also appreciated that the inspirational element was on the lighter side. It's woven through really well and it felt genuine. I appreciated that it opened up real concerns and also real answers on God and how much he controls of our lives that most of us struggle with at one time or another.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I highly recommend this story if you enjoy inspirational suspense. I loved the characters, the writing, and the plot and am excited to read more in this series!

Content: Some violence as applicable to the suspense, but clean.
Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, which did not require a positive review nor affect it in any way.

I'm reviewing the second book in this series tomorrow, and also welcoming the author for a guest post, so come back to check those out!
